Note: I'm sorry, current 9th graders. For many years, this race included 5th-9th grade. However, the MSHSL changed its rules over the summer. In short, 9th graders are not allowed to participate in "Jr. High" races.

Race Format: Individual races for (non-varsity) girls and boys 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Pursuit race with classic race in the am and skate race in order of classic finish in the pm.
Starting Format: Races will be interval starts of 4 skiers per 15 seconds with a double-pole start across a field.
Distance: Approximately 4.0 km classic and freestyle

Info: The school is requiring we take a bus this year for liability purposes. So, we'll all ride together on a comfy, yellow school bus. Please pack a lunch and hydration as our trip will span over the lunch hour.

Format:
The Freestyle Race will be an Interval Start with one skier departing every 15 seconds out of 2 start lanes. Odd numbers starting in the Left Lane and Even Numbers starting in the Right Lane.
The Classic Race will be a Pursuit Start with 3 starting lanes. Each skier is responsible to know their departure time and start their race at the correct time. Gatekeepers will be at the starting line to ensure a skier does not leave early. Each starting lane will have a poster listing bib numbers and departure times. There will be a large display clock with the running race time.
The Sprint Relays for 2026 will be Classic Technique. Advancement from the Preliminary heats to the Finals will be the winning team from Heat One and the winning team from Heat Two. After the top teams have been taken out the next fastest 4 times will advance regardless of heat.
The Courses: The section race will be skied on three different race courses. The freestyle course will be 5.1km in length. The classic course will be 5.4km in length. The sprint relay will be 1.2km.
